Mounts in Build An Ant Empire
Train mounts only with ants you can afford to lose - success or fail, that worker leaves your colony for good.
Mounts in Build An Ant Empire look like a quality-of-life upgrade, but the training rules are harsh. You hand an ant to the mount training NPC, training can succeed or fail, and either outcome removes that ant from your colony. The mount you get is only slightly faster than walking, while a teleport-to-nest control at the top of the screen already covers most return trips.
This guide explains the trade-off so you do not donate a Legendary, Divine, or OP producer for a minor move-speed bump during the October 2026 meta.
How mount training works
- Locate the mount training NPC in the experience.
- Interact (E) and hand over the ant you are willing to spend.
- Training resolves as a success or a failure.
- The ant is gone from colony production either way.
- On success, you gain a mount that moves only slightly faster than on-foot travel.
There is no “try again with the same ant” path. Once you commit, that slot worker is spent.
Travel tools you already have
Before training anything, remember:
- Walking with WASD covers short routes between Ant Queen, collection, Sell, upgrade boards, and the center items shop.
- Teleport-to-nest (top-of-screen control) snaps you home without sacrificing a producer.
- Speed jellies from the shop give timed movement/production buffs without deleting ants (Normal Speed Jelly starts at $10k).
Most Cash farming routes in cash farming do not require a mount. They require filled slots and higher rarity food output.
When mounts are a bad idea
Skip mount training if the candidate is:
- Your best or second-best slot ant (tier list)
- A mutated keeper (Leaf through Starlight EFF already invested - see mutations)
- A rare Index discovery you still need for production while milestones climb
- Anything you would cry about replacing during a Cash code window
Sacrificing S/A ants for a slight speed bump is one of the fastest ways to stall a colony.
When mounts can make sense
Consider training only when all of these are true:
- You have spare low-value ants (true Commons you were about to replace anyway).
- Your colony slots stay full of stronger producers after the sacrifice.
- You personally want the mount cosmetic / minor speed and accept the loss.
- Nest teleport already handles your longest trips, so you are not “solving” travel the wrong way.
Even then, treat mounts as optional flavor, not a progression pillar like Egg luck, Food value, or rarity upgrades from colony upgrades.
Mounts vs other spend sinks
| Sink | Keeps the ant? | Progression impact |
|---|---|---|
| Egg luck / Egg rolls | Yes | High - better food forever |
| Food value / expansion | Yes | High - more Cash pipeline |
| Speed jelly | Yes | Medium - timed buff |
| Mutation potion | Yes (mutates) | High on keepers |
| Mount training | No | Low - slight walk speed |
Spend Cash and ants where the table says High first.
Practical decision checklist
- Open your colony and sort by weakest ant.
- If the weakest ant is still useful as a filler producer, keep it until a better roll arrives.
- If you insist on a mount, feed the trainer only ants you would sell/replace immediately.
- After training, refill the empty slot before you resume long farming sessions.
- Recheck Updates if a future patch changes mount odds or travel tools.
Beginner warnings
New players often train their first decent rarity because mounts feel like “progress.” In Build An Ant Empire, progress is Cash per minute from placed ants. Read Getting Started and lock the loop before you experiment with the trainer.
Community scripts that auto-buy or auto-interact can also mis-click NPCs. If you use automation at all, keep mount training manual.

Mounts are optional. Your best ants are not. Train only what you can afford to delete, and let teleport-to-nest plus solid producers carry the empire.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do I get a mount in Build An Ant Empire?
Hand an ant to the mount training NPC. Training can succeed or fail, but the ant leaves your colony either way.
Are mounts much faster than walking?
No. Mounts are only slightly faster than walking. The teleport-to-nest button already covers most travel needs.
Can I get my ant back if mount training fails?
No. Success or failure both consume the ant. Only train ants you are ready to lose.
Should I turn a Divine or OP ant into a mount?
Almost never. Those rarities are prime producers. Use spare Commons if you truly want a mount.
What should I upgrade instead of chasing mounts?
Egg luck, Egg rolls, Food value, and colony slots first. Those raise Cash permanently without deleting workers.
