Tier List Hub

In Build An Ant Empire, ant strength is driven first by rarity. Higher rarity ants produce stronger food output at the collection loop, which means more boxes to sell and faster Cash for colony upgrades. This Tier List Hub ranks the rarity ladder guides commonly reference - Common through high-end tiers including Legendary, Divine, and OP - and explains how to spend slots, Cash, and egg rolls without inventing fake unit names.

Mutations sit on top of rarity as EFF multipliers. After you understand base tiers here, open the dedicated mutations tier list for Leaf through Starlight potion priorities.

Ranking criteria

This list prioritizes progression value in public servers (six-player instances):

  1. Food production strength tied to rarity
  2. How hard the ant is to roll without Egg luck
  3. Whether the ant deserves a permanent colony slot
  4. Synergy with later mutation potions from the items shop

PvP tiers do not apply - this is a colony / tycoon incremental. “Best” means best Cash per slot over time.

Rarity tier ladder

TierRarities / roleSlot advice
SOP, DivineKeep forever; mutate when you can afford top potions
ALegendary and other high rarities just below Divine/OPCore producers; replace only with S
BMid-high rarities above uncommon fillerStrong midgame; rotate as luck improves
CMid rarities / solid Commons upgradesTemporary producers while expanding slots
DCommonFill empty slots only; sell/replace ASAP

Guides describe the climb as Common → higher rarities including Legendary, Divine, OP. Exact mid-tier names can shift with Index updates, but the rule stays stable: higher rarity equals stronger food production.

S tier - OP and Divine

These are endgame slot anchors. When you roll them at the Ant Queen, buy immediately if Cash allows. They justify saving for high EFF mutations such as Petal or Starlight later. Do not sacrifice an S ant on the mount trainer - mounts only move slightly faster than walking, success or fail consumes the ant, and a teleport-to-nest button already exists.

A tier - Legendary and near-top rarities

Legendary-quality ants carry mid-to-late colonies. Place them in your best slots, push Food value and Ant speed so their production converts quickly, and consider mid mutations (Bubblegum, Candy, Rainbow) before ultra-late potions.

B tier - Strong mid rarities

Worth buying during Egg luck ramps. Use them to fund expansion while you hunt A/S rolls. Replace B ants when a clearly higher rarity appears and slots are full.

C tier - Serviceable fillers

Better than empty slots. Buy when you still have open colony space and Cash is not earmarked for Egg luck / Egg rolls. Avoid spending mutation potions here.

D tier - Common

Commons exist to teach the loop. Place them only to start food flowing on a brand-new plot, then overwrite as soon as anything better lands. Dumping Leaf or better potions on Commons wastes billions-to-quintillions of Cash potential.

How egg luck changes the tier chase

Without upgrades, expect long Common streaks. The correct response is not endless manual grinding alone - buy Egg luck and Egg rolls from the upgrade boards early (see colony upgrades). More rolls plus better odds is how A/S ants appear often enough to matter.

Timed Cash codes pair well with luck upgrades: redeem, roll aggressively for fifteen minutes, buy only high-tier results, place them, then resume collect/sell.

Slot economy tips

  • You start with one colony slot; buy expansion to hold multiple producers.
  • Empty slots earn nothing - a C ant beats a vacant space.
  • Full slots demand ruthless replacement: always compare new rolls to your weakest placed ant.
  • Colony expansion costs rise per level; expand when your current ants are bottlenecked by space, not before basic luck upgrades.

Mutations on top of rarity

Rarity sets the floor; mutations multiply EFF:

  • Leaf 1.35x, Bubblegum 1.75x, Candy 2x, Rainbow 2.25x, Petal 3x, Starlight 5x
  • Mutation Removal Potion exists if you need to clear a bad roll

Put multipliers on S/A ants only. Full potion prices and when to buy are covered in items shop and ranked in mutations.

Index discovery value

The Index rewards discovering ants and mutations with milestone claims (once each). Even a low-tier discovery can be worth claiming for the milestone Cash or items, but that does not mean you should keep a Common in a late-game slot. Discover → claim Index → replace weak producers.

How to use this hub in-session

  1. Roll at the Ant Queen (rolling is free; buying costs Cash).
  2. Buy only if the rarity beats your weakest slot or fills empty space.
  3. Collect food boxes, sell for Cash, reinvest into luck/rolls/food value/expansion.
  4. When Cash is abundant, mutate your best ants upward.
  5. Recheck this tier logic after major updates in case new top rarities appear in the Index.

Stay ruthless about slot quality. Build An Ant Empire rewards colonies that treat Commons as temporary scaffolding and Legendary-and-above ants as the real empire.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the best ant rarity in Build An Ant Empire?

Higher rarities produce more food. Top guides highlight Legendary, Divine, and OP as the premium end of the ladder above Common fillers.

Should I keep Common ants?

Only to fill empty early slots. Replace Commons as soon as mid or high rarities are available so every slot maximizes food output.

Do mutations change the tier list?

Mutations multiply EFF on top of rarity. An S-tier ant with Starlight far outscales the same rarity unmutated. See the mutations tier list for potion order.

Should I turn a Divine ant into a mount?

Usually no. Mount training consumes the ant win or lose, mounts are only slightly faster than walk, and nest teleport already covers return trips.

How do I roll higher rarities more often?

Upgrade Egg luck and Egg rolls first, then roll heavily during Cash code windows while buying only upgrades that beat your current slots.
